The Origins of Human Design

What exactly is Human Design? From where does it originate? These are some of the questions one might ask themselves before exploring the system that has begun to attract more and more curious people. In short, Human Design utilizes many systems to create its own system. The following post describes the various ways in which Human Design has developed from these other systems.

1.    Hindu-Brahmin Chakras

Much like the Chakra system we are familiar with, Human Design involves 9 different ‘chakras’ called centers. The centers, as seen below, correspond to different types of energy. The centers you have colored in on your chart are constant sources of energy. They are consistent within your chart, while the centers that are not colored are undefined and susceptible to those who have these centers defined.

2.    The I ‘Ching

Human Design pulls much of the specific ways in which the centers function from the I ‘Ching. The I ‘Ching has 64 hexagrams, with 6 different points. The hexagrams each have their own energetic meaning, and they have 6 different expressions of that meaning. In Human Design, these hexagrams are called gates, and you will find them specifically assigned to each center. Each individual’s chart has the exact same placement of gates within the centers, but whether or not those gates are active is completely dependent upon one’s birthday, birth time, and location.

3.    Astrology

In astrology, the planets play an important role in our personalities. Similarly, in Human Design, gate expression is influenced by the sun, the planets, the moon, and the north and south nodes and is important in how one’s unique chart is expressed. The most prominent gates active in one’s chart are the gates found in the sun and earth. These gates affect the way you interpret the world and yourself within the world. They are so important that they form what is called the Incarnation Cross in your chart, which is your karmic life path in this body.

4.    The Kabbalah

Also known as the Tree of Life, the Kabbalah is an ancient system consisting of nodes and lines connecting the nodes. Similarly, Human Design has 36 channels connecting the centers together. As you can see in your chart, there are lines throughout the bodygraph that are either empty, red, black, or red and black. These lines are formed when the gates in one center are active and meet with an active gate in its opposing center. The lines branch out like the Tree of Life and form a channel that alters the expression of those gates and activates the entire center, coloring it in on your chart.

5.    Neutrinos

Part of the advanced Human Design System, neutrinos are the underlying current of energy that form the entire system. Like atoms forming molecules, neutrinos, which are subatomic particles, come together to form the energetic blueprint for the body. This imprint takes place around 88 days before your birth time, and is calculated based on 88 degrees from the position of the sun on your birthday and time. It is then that the neutrinos enter the physical realm and imprint upon your form.

In Human Design, you will see that there is a red column of numbers on the left of the bodygraph. These numbers are the unconscious gates that were present at approximately 88 days before your birth. They are the planetary design, or body, of your chart.

On the contrary, the black column of numbers on the right of the bodygraph are the conscious gates that were present on your exact birthtime. These gates are the planetary personality, or mind. You might be less aware of imprinted gates because they are considered unconscious and in the body. Likewise, you are more inclined to be aware of your conscious gates that formed as you fully came into the world, as they are part of your conscious mind.

6.    Genetics

Human Design also uses genetic coding for some of the more advanced elements of the system. The 64 codons in human genetics play underlying roles in the 64 gates in Human Design.

As you can see, there are many complex elements that come into play in the creation of the HD system. The current result is a unifying network of ancient and modern technology. This system, like all systems, is ever-changing as we come into deeper awareness of what it all means. Each individual's journey with Human Design leads to higher levels of individual, tribal, and collective consciousness.
