Human Design Type: Generator

In Human Design, there are 5 different types of human beings. If you’re reading this, chances are you or someone you know is a Generator type. The Generator makes up approximately 37% of the population. This is because societies need large numbers of energy sources to keep life moving and progressing. Without generators, none of this would be possible.
In this post, I am going to cover the different types of Generators. The type of authority one has greatly affects the ways in which they make decisions that best suit their unique design.

What is a Generator Type?

Generators are defined by one of two elements: 1. whether or not they have a defined sacral center, and 2. whether or not their throat center is connected in some way to a motor.
Beyond that, a generator can have either a sacral authority or an emotional one on top of the sacral. Let’s take a closer look at the two Generator authorities, using a few examples of famous Generators to visually see these differences.

Sacral Authority Generators

You are a sacral Generator if your sacral is defined, your solar plexus is undefined, and you have no motor connected to your throat center. Sacral Generators are here to respond to opportunities and their environment. Depending on how your gut feels, you will either experience a ‘yes’, a ‘no’, or an ‘I’m not sure’ response. If you aren’t certain, it is important not to use the mind to logically arrive at a decision. Uncertainty signifies a need to sit on the experience, and should be considered a ‘not right now,’ until further notice.
A good way to respond in moments of uncertainty is to let others know you aren’t sure but will think about it and let them know at a later time. This prevents you from making a decision that isn’t right for you, as it’s likely you’re feeling uncertain due to outside energies muddling up your own.
Madonna’s Human Design
In the image above, we have Madonna’s chart. She is a sacral generator, so she does not have to wait for an emotional wave to pass before responding. Her throat is defined, but because it is not connected to the ego, the solar plexus, or second-hand connected to these or the root, she is not a Manifesting Generator.
She has a constant stream of sacral energy that connects with her identity center, enabling her to generate consistent energy into her personal talents and skills. Madonna might feel extra sensitive towards those who are emotional around her, due to her undefined solar plexus.
In fact…
It is important to note that those with emotional centers that are undefined may feel emotionally overwhelmed by those who are, and, since a good half of the population is emotionally defined, someone with sacral definition who feels emotionally uncomfortable in a situation best benefits from stepping away.
On the contrary, those with a defined sacral must also keep in mind that they also affect those without sacral definition, much like they are affected by those with emotional definition. A good rule of thumb is to be aware of the ways in which our energies impact others, and others’ energies impact us. This awareness is key to living a life full of self-understanding and healthy choices.

Emotional Authority Generators

Like the sacral authority Generator, the emotionally defined Generator will also have a yes/no response and a consistent energy. However, the solar plexus center, home of the emotions, carries more weight in its effect on one’s chart. Therefore, someone with sacral and solar plexus definition will have an emotional authority.
All types with emotional authority function in a similar manner when it comes to making decisions. It doesn’t matter if you’re a projector, manifestor, manifesting generator, or generator. If your chart is emotionally defined, and a good 50% of the population is, you can neither make a decision during an emotional high or an emotional low.
Generators with emotional authority must wait for emotional clarity to make decisions before relying on your sacral yes/no response. Your yes/no response will be riddled with emotions regarding those responses if you have not achieved emotional clarity, leaving you feeling dissatisfied with your decision, even if it would have been the decision you had made in the end.
Take caution not to allow the mind to logically try to make decisions during this time. Pros and cons lists, for example, don’t use your authority to arrive at a conclusion and might result in the wrong decision.
Know that you may feel uncertainty frequently due to the impact of your emotions. This is especially the case if your ajna, the center of ideas and knowing, is open. Uncertainty is a healthy way of processing the here and now. Through time, emotional awareness will come, and this clarity leads to a deep understanding of the self and the decisions you make. Therefore, be sure to feel the full extent of your emotions prior to responding to any given opportunity.
Albert Einstein’s Human Design
In this image, we have the body graph of Albert Einstein, an emotionally defined Generator with an open ego center and an undefined throat center. Einstein’s emotions are tied deeply into the relationship he has with his sacral. Therefore, waiting for emotional clarity enables him to utilize his sacral energy to its utmost potential.

The Generator Not-Self: Frustration

Generators who do not follow their authority, whether it be sacral or emotional, are prone to feeling frustration. Using your mind to make decisions, making choices when experiencing an emotional high or low, or making decisions while being influenced by defined centers of your peers will result in frustration.

The Generator Signature: Satisfaction

Generators are here to respond. They are not here to use their minds to come to conclusions. In fact, no one has mental authority because the mind leads us astray from what really matters at the inner levels of our beings. Similarly, Generators are not here to initiate, reflect, or guide others.
When we listen to the unique elements of our body, type, and environment, we better align ourselves with healthy lifestyles. When you follow your strategy and your authority, you better align yourself with what is correct for your unique self.
As a Generator, you have the remarkable ability to work on what you love without depending on invitations or inconsistent energy. You are the backbones of the world we live in, and that is truly a feat to be embraced.
